Our Environmental Policy:
At Bold, we care about the environment. We have done our best to research products that have the least impact on the environment and yet still give you great-looking and durable prints. Here are the bold steps we have made to minimize our eco-footprint:
- Press Clean Up:
We believe that the biggest environmental threat in a print shop are the solvents we use for press clean up. Gallons of these solvents are washed down the drain every month. The cheapest varieties of these are similar to turpentine. They are toxic and are horrible for the environment. We won't use them. At Bold we have gone out of our way to import non-toxic bio degradable clean up solutions that pose no threat to the environment whatsoever and are so mild you could wash your hands in them. They are made from completely biodegradable organic compounds and still do a great job. - On the Press:
When the job allows, we use water-base ink. We do, however, find that plastisol inks are still necessary for the majority of applications . We have tried soy-based inks but haven’t been impressed with the washability and their opacity on dark garments, so we don’t use them, but we keep checking back on them every now and then to see how they have improved. We are also keeping our eye on a line of PVC-free plastisol inks that should be available soon. We'll keep you posted.
- Our Machinery:
We have chosen to purchase the most energy efficient machinery available. All of our equipment is less than five years old and draws the least amount of electricity for its class.
- The Garments:
All of our organic garment selections have been certified as organic. Every garment we offer is certified ‘sweatshop free’.
